Around 3:30 am the waves slowed down a bit so I was able to get about another hour of sleep. Kurt hadn’t heard back from his guys yet, so he got up with his 5 am alarm to go to work. The waves had started to pick back up again in intensity & spacing between, so I took a shower & started preparing to have our baby!
Once Jenny arrived around 7:30 am & the pool was set up, the next issue was discovered... the hose adapter didn’t fit the laundry tub faucet.
Kurt had to leave to get to the hardware store when they opened at 8 am to get a new adapter! He claims he was a little less than polite to the slow-going Ace Hardware employee, but in his defense he was as close to having a heart attack as he’s ever been.
While he was gone my birthing time greatly intensified. My Hypnobabies training was imperative during this time to keep as calm & relaxed as possible; I can confidently say this was the most work I have ever done. The “peace” word cue was my go-to, which I was surprised by as I don’t remember using it at all through my birthing time with Vienna.
Speaking of our sweet Vienna, this was right about the time she woke up & came downstairs to check out all the action. She was excited to have Miss Jenny over & was helping to comfort & encourage me with “it’s okay mommy!” & “good job mommy!”
A little after 8 am Jenny offered to check my progress & determined I was at least 8 cm dilated. Kurt got home shortly after & started filling up the tub. He came to my side & gave such sweet & needed encouragement. I remember telling him that it was really hard work & I wanted to be in the tub so he helped me get to it.
No sooner was I on my hands & knees in that comforting water did I start having the urge to push. I followed my body’s leading & pushed through every wave. I could feel Harbor making her way down very quickly with each push & before I could even realize it Kurt was helping to guide her head out. One more big push & out she came into the water in front of me. It was 8:52 am.
I scooped her up & stared in disbelief... it happened so fast & I was exhausted... & she was so tiny & beautiful. Then my favorite moment: Vienna looked over into the tub at us & I told her, “look Vienna! This is baby Harbor! This is who we’ve been waiting for!” She lit up with joy & excitedly yelled, “oh yea!”
With this whirlwind event, it’s no surprise that the second midwife & our birth photographer (JenniferThompson Photography - Blaine Photographer) weren’t able to make it in time for the birth, but when they both arrived we were gifted with incredible extra care & these precious photos.
“Behold, children are a gift of the Lord, the fruit of the womb is a reward.” Psalms 127:3
I can’t imagine what I could have ever done to deserve these beautiful girls as a gift & reward from our good Father, but I will not question it... I will just thank Him endlessly.
