Short and sweet first-time mom story with a change of plans

Around 4:00 am I started getting pressure waves. They weren't close together so Brian and I hung around the house and I listened to my Hypnobabies CD's while sitting on my birthing ball or laying in bed.

Around 5:00 pm the waves were five minutes apart so we called Methodist to let them know we would be coming. I was totally thrown off when they told me they were full and we would need to go to another hospital. After weighing our options, we decided to go to St. Francis because they are a part of the same midwife group as Methodist. Unfortunately, that meant I couldn't do a water birth. I was really upset about the situation but Brian helped me stay focused. He reminded me that we would be meeting our daughter soon.
At 7:00 I lost my plug and my pressure waves started picking up so we decided to head to the hospital. By the time we got there it was 8:00 pm and I was dilated to 7. Even though I couldn't birth in the tub I was still able to labor in it. It felt so great!  Once I started feeling like I needed to push it was hard to stay focused. I used the keyword "peace" to try stay relaxed. Making "pa pa pa" noises also helped. My midwife, nurse and Brian were so supportive and comforting. They were such a huge help. Brian definitely benefited from the classes!

Once I was fully dilated they had me get out of the tub. After 20 minutes of pushing Annalee was born. It was amazing! They put her right on me and she was calm and wide eyed. Then she peed and pooped on me :). The nurse and midwife kept saying how impressed they were with how much control I had, our teamwork and that I pushed for such a short time. She weighed 8lbs 4oz and was 21" long.

I was disappointed I didn't get to do a water birth but everything turned out great. We really liked all of our nurses and the midwife. They made the entire experience so much better. It's amazing what our bodies can do! I am so happy I was able to have a natural childbirth. Brian and I took a lot away from the Hypnobabies class. Thank you Karla!
