Hello! My name is Laura Hanstad and I am a certified Hypnobabies Childbirth Hypnosis Instructor (HCHI), a registered Hypno-Doula (HCHD) and a Certified Placenta Encapsulation Specialist serving the Twin Cities.
I am lucky that I found Hypnobabies at the beginning of my journey into the birth world in July 2012. I am lucky that I found Hypnobabies at the beginning of my journey into the birth world in July 2012. I specialized as a Hypno-Doula from the beginning as I saw how much more educated families were in their birthing options and that they could have a more positive pregnancy and birth experience. I have worked
in education for 15 years so am a true believer in life long learning so I knew that teaching Hypnobabies was something I wanted to do.
My birth philosophy involves ensuring birthing mothers and their birth partner are well educated in their choices – whether it is an elective choice or a necessary intervention. I want families to feel happy, confident and satisfied with their birthing experience in the end. This means that they had a positive pregnancy experience, including choosing a provider that supports their birthing wishes, a wonderful birth team including the provider, nurses, doula, family member and birth partner of course, and that they feel supported through their birthing time and have a support system set-up for themselves postpartum to ease into parenthood or adding another child to their family.
One of my favorite things about Hypnobabies is focusing on visualizing your birth. My second birth, first Hypnobabies, was almost EXACTLY as I had visualized down to how my birthing time began (waters releasing), how many hours I labored (just over seven), what time of day she was born (I was within the hour I envisioned) and how I birthed her (squatting in a birth tub) and I caught her with my husband. I also greatly appreciate the positive philosophy that the program boasts such as using positive or neutral language and utilizing affirmations.
As a doula I have been able to witness all kinds of births from Hypnobaby cesareans to natural water birth and even a “pain free” birth using Pitocin. There are amazing tools taught through Hypnobabies and I strongly believe people should invest time into their birth preparations. I would also highly recommend utilizing a doula so that you have someone knowledgeable in the birth world, the Hypnobabies tools, tracks and techniques and so that you and your birth partner can be fully engaged in your special birthing time.
